The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) invites public comments on proposals to collect offshore wind data via buoys as opposed to fixed stations. The program criteria limit rebate commitments to $4 million per meteorological tower, with the developer being responsible for additional costs. While a buoy-based system of met data collection may not enable the same opportunities for environmental resource monitoring as a fixed met station, it is expected to be less environmentally-intrusive, and offer better wind resource assessment data with near and long-term cost advantages.
