Description:

The study examines the operational impact of up to 20%-30% (225-330 GW) wind energy penetration by 2024 on the bulk power system in the Eastern Interconnection. A large amount of offshore wind generation is needed to reach target energy levels under Scenarios 3 (64 GW) and 4 (79 GW). The study found that Interconnection-wide costs for integrating large amounts of wind generation are manageable with large regional operating pools and significant market, tariff, and operational changes.
