Investigation by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) on its own Motion commencing a Rulemaking (DPU 10-58-A)

In this Order, the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) adopts as final the emergency long-term contract regulations. DPU eliminated the requirement limiting the availability of long-term contracts to only in-state renewable resources, in response to TransCanada's lawsuit challenging its constitutionality. The Department must take into consideration both the potential costs and benefits of such contracts and approve a contract only upon a finding that it is a cost-effective mechanism for procuring renewable energy on a long-term basis.
