Joint Petition for Approval of Merger between NSTAR and Northeast Utilities [D.P.U. 10-170-b]

The order approves the merger of NSTAR and Northeast Utilities. The merger includes the Department of Energy Resources' (DOER) settlement that requires NSTAR Electric to enter into a 15-year long-term renewable power contract (PPA) with Cape Wind for 129MW of output capacity (equivalent to 27.5% of Cape Wind's total capacity). The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) intends to review the PPA in a separate docket (D.P.U. 12-30) to determine whether it comports with the Green Communities Act.
