Georgia Tech and Southern Company have partnered since 2005 to explore the feasibility of a wind farm off of Georgia’s coast. In 2011, the companies submitted an application to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to deploy a wind collection device off the Georgia coast. In August 2016, Georgia Power withdrew their application for the lease that would have authorized the installation of this device.
