New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a bill that called for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to reconsider applications for smaller offshore wind projects, including the proposed 25 MW, $200 million Fishermen's Energy project.

The Department of Energy's final Environmental Assessment found that the construction and operation of wind turbine generators off the coast of Atlantic City, N.J. would not be a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment as defined by the National Environmental Policy Act. The Clean Energy Victory Bonds Act of 2015 would direct the U.S. Department of the Treasury to issue small-denomination treasury bonds to raise revenue for the extension of certain energy-related tax credits and incentives that encourage renewable energy growth. HR Bill 4162 can be found here.

The White House hosted a Summit on Offshore Wind, a gathering of leading federal, state and industry stakeholders committed to the long-term and sustainable development of offshore wind in the United States. At the Summit, the White House announced the following actions in support of the development of offshore wind:

• Establishing a White House Interagency Working Group on Offshore Wind
• Fascilitating state cooperation in the Northeast
• Establishing an international offshore wind regulators forum
• BOEM lease auctions in North Carolina and New Jersey

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) held the nation’s fifth competitive lease sale for renewable energy in federal waters, which offered nearly 344,000 acres offshore New Jersey for potential wind energy development.The provisional winners of the lease sale are RES America Developments Inc., which bid $880,715 for lease area OCS-A 0498 (160,480 acres), and US Wind Inc., which bid $1,006,240 for OCS-A 0499 (183,353 acres).
